Day 3: Horombo Hut (3720m) – Acclimatization Day

  • Altitude Gain: Variable
  • Walking Time: 3-4 hours (Optional)
  • Description: This day is for acclimatization. You can take a hike to Zebra Rocks or Mawenzi Hut and then return to Horombo for the night. This helps your body adjust to the increasing altitude and reduces the risk of altitude sickness.

Day 4: Horombo Hut (3720m) to Kibo Hut (4700m)

  • Altitude Gain: +980m
  • Walking Time: 6-8 hours
  • Description: The trail ascends through alpine desert, with rocky terrain and sparse vegetation. You’ll pass the last watering point at the base of the Kibo crater wall before ascending further to Kibo Hut. This is a long and challenging day.

  • Description: You’ll begin the ascent to Uhuru Peak around midnight, aiming to reach the summit by sunrise. The trail is steep and rocky, and the altitude makes the trek physically demanding. Once at the summit, take in the breathtaking views before descending back to Kibo Hut for a short rest. Then continue descending to Horombo Hut for overnight stay.
